Virtual College Coach Volunteering

The Program

In partnership with CollegePoint, ScholarMatch provides individualized college admission counseling virtually to low-income, high-achieving students nationwide.

As a virtual College Coach, you will be matched with two incoming high school seniors and equipped with thorough training and support from our staff to help your students navigate the college admissions process. From building a strong college list to perfecting the personal statement, you will provide essential guidance to promising but under-resourced college applicants. This opportunity works well for busy professionals; volunteers commit approximately 4-6 hours per month June 2018 – June 2019, and create life-changing opportunities for students.

Why Virtual Volunteer Marilyn Rutz Levy Loves College Access (and Flamingos)

“If there’s anything that I could do to get students into school and keep them there, even if it’s just one by one, that’s my motivation.”

It’s dedicated volunteers like Marilyn that make this work possible. Take a moment to learn about her experience to get a sense of what yours could look like!

Volunteer Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree
  • Commit to supporting 2 students from June 2018 – June 2019
  • Successfully complete all online Training Modules
  • Pass a background check

ScholarMatch selects volunteer College Coaches based on our program capacity and discretion. Volunteers are not guaranteed a spot in the program even if they meet all of the criteria above.

Registration & Training Timeline

As of July 1st, we have reached capacity for volunteers to serve students through the CollegePoint initiative, and are not currently onboarding coaches. However, we will begin recruitment for new coaches for the 2019-2020 year in the spring of 2019, and still encourage you to register below so that we can be in touch when we begin our next cycle!
