College Coach

Support high school students in-person

Applying to college takes just a few hours but it can change a student’s life forever. As a College Coach, you’re at the heart of this transformation, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with high school students as they explore college options, and complete essays, applications and financial aid paperwork.

College Coaches work in-person at our San Francisco center, and commit to volunteering several times throughout a semester. Sessions take place on weekday evenings and select Saturdays. If you are an active coach, please take a look at our volunteer calendar to sign up for college coaching .

Virtual College Coach

Support high school students virtually

As a virtual College Coach, you will be matched with two incoming high school seniors and equipped with thorough training and support from our staff to help your students navigate the college admissions process. From building a strong college list to perfecting the personal statement, you will provide essential guidance to promising but under-resourced college applicants. This opportunity works well for busy professionals; volunteers commit approximately 3-5 hours per month June 2018 – July 2019, and create life-changing opportunities for students.

While we’re fortunate to be at capacity for our current program year, we encourage you to register interest in serving as a volunteer for our next cohort of students, and will reach out when we begin recruiting and onboarding our next cohort of virtual college coaches!

Career Coach

Career mentor a college student

For under-resourced students, the transition from college to career can be daunting. As a Career Coach, your industry-specific mentorship gives college juniors and seniors a priceless advantage as they prepare to enter the workforce. Coaches connect with their mentee in-person or virtually and commit to a total of 5-10 hours throughout the course of the program. Demand varies as Career Coaches will be matched according to need and professional expertise. Most matches are made during spring and summer months. If you are a busy professional, this is a wonderful volunteer opportunity that can be flexible with your schedule!

Support Our Scholars

Our students have overcome great obstacles to be where they are today. Ready for college, with just one final barrier: the cost of tuition. On average, a gap of just $2700 separates their financial aid packages and their dreams of higher education.
