Bates College
A private, highly selective liberal arts college, Bates was founded in 1855 by abolitionists. The school is also one of the first colleges to be founded as co-ed. Today, students have the option of 33 majors, 90 student-run clubs, and the option of living in dorms or on-campus Victorian houses.
